The Ultimate Guide to the Best First Print Run and Limited Edition Fantasy and Romantasy Books Worth Collecting in 2026
For the readers who judge books by the sprayed edges, or foiled hardcovers, no shame here. Just a few years ago, you could only get sprayed and stenciled edge special editions from Book subscription boxes or the occasional deluxe edition drop for a big anniversary of a bestseller. Fourth Wing’s dragon edges changed all that. With the popularity of that first edition selling out so quickly, other publishers took notice. Now it seems almost every new fantasy or romantasy book has a beautiful limited edition first print run or collector’s deluxe edition. Suddenly collecting a shelf full of stunning books doesn’t seem that out of reach anymore. Whether it’s inflation, the cost of overseas shipping, or even the secondary market, some of the book subscription special editions can be super spendy.
Don’t get me wrong, I love saving up for those too. BUT, it’s much more affordable to collect these first print runs and limited deluxe editions, and frankly, most of them are just as pretty. It’s been a few years since I’ve curated a list of beautiful editions, so below you’ll find some of my favorite ‘standard’ editions that are affordable and every bit as special and gorgeous as a book box’s special edition. If you’re just getting started with your book collecting journey, this list is a great place to find gorgeous additions for your bookshelves.
