Book Review: The Night Prince is the Perfect Sequel to Booktok’s Romantasy Sensation, The Wolf King

The Booktok girlies weren’t lying—this sequel to The Wolf King is even better. Lauren Palphreyman’s second installment, The Night Prince expands the world we discovered in book one, with more villains, more mysteries, and a love triangle that for me, is no contest. This was once again such a bingeable read. I almost read it entirely in one sitting, so if you’re looking for a Romantasy series you can devour, this one needs to be on your TBR. If you missed my first review, this description still stands: the gritty werewolves from the movie, Underworld, but put them in tartan kilts and the time period vibes of Braveheart. You’re sold, right? I was. BTW, is it bad that I got the ick from the main love interest? Like girl, get it together and pick the right guy! But no spoilers here. Book two is also getting the special edition treatment to match book one, and I know they’re going to look gorgeous next to each other. Now how do I get my hands on the unreleased book three immediately? Once you read this, you’re going to be asking the same.

Aurora has a pretty great growth arc in this book. She’s gone from damsel in distress to strong, but still soft. She discovers a lot about herself, what she really wants, and learning to trust herself. There’s definitely some more explanation needed for some of the plot points, but I’m sure that’s coming in book three.

Callum’s really getting on my last nerve. I’ve gotta be honest, he’s way too domineering, controlling, and I just keep waiting for Aurora to wake up and realize there’s a WAY better option here.

Y’all I’m STILL rooting for Blake. The tension?! I swear if she doesn’t end up with him, I’m going to riot. They have such good banter, even though she hates him for so much of this book. And look, I’m not saying it’s not warranted, but I can’t help but feel sorry for him. Callum who?

This book is still a bit too spicy for me, but it’s easily skippable if it’s not your thing. While it’s a bit slower in the first 20%, it starts moving at a breakneck pace for the rest of the book. Is there a cliffhanger? Yes. But it’s not as brutal as some, although there is a pretty big reveal that’s going to leave a lot of people reeling.

This audiobook has multiple narrators, and is a must. I thoroughly enjoyed the different accents. You can find the audiobook on Audible or Libro.fm (ProTips: Audible is 99 cents/mo for three months right now AND you can get two free audiobooks on Libro.fm with the code SWITCH right now).
